🌿 Why Sicily is a magical place for glamping (and what to know before you start)
Some of the best ideas don’t start with a business plan.
They start with a feeling.
That’s how it began for us — not with a strategy, but with sunsets over old olive trees, our kids barefoot in the garden, and the quiet magic of living closer to the land.
We’d just arrived in Sicily, looking for a slower rhythm after years of travel. We’d spent months in our RV, chasing warm weather, cooking outside, making temporary homes in nature. So when we finally paused here, it felt like something clicked. A place where the outdoors didn’t need much — just a little intention to become something beautiful.
And then, our neighbors started asking.
They hadn’t heard of “glamping,” but they had pieces of the puzzle. A wild plot of land. A wish to host family or friends. The idea of organizing a retreat, or welcoming visitors in a different way.
So we showed them what we’d built years ago on the Peruvian coast — the platforms, the tents, the flow of it all — and their eyes lit up. Suddenly the land felt full of possibilities.
✨ Why glamping feels so right in Sicily
You don’t need a hotel to offer something memorable.
In fact, you don’t even need much.
All over the island, people are looking for alternatives — for travel that feels more human, more connected, and more peaceful. Glamping fits that shift perfectly. It lets you host with simplicity, create something beautiful without overbuilding, and welcome guests (or family) into nature without sacrificing comfort.
Whether your idea is a full retreat space, a romantic weekend tent, or just a peaceful spot for your visiting cousins — Sicily gives you a canvas that’s already halfway there.
Here’s why:
- The landscape is raw and generous – hills, cliffs, sea views, lemon groves. You don’t need to “create” much. You just need to listen to what the land already offers.
- People crave something personal – and a tent with soul is a thousand times more memorable than a sterile guest room.
- Small towns are open to it – they may not be shouting it from the rooftops, but many local communities are quietly supportive of ideas that bring slow, conscious tourism.
But before you roll out a tent and call it a day…
🧭 A few things to think about (from someone who’s been there)
We built two glamping sites on the Peruvian coast before settling in Sicily — working with local materials, figuring out platforms, water systems, windproofing, and the art of making things feel both rustic and refined.
So yes, we know this world — the dreamy bits and the dirty ones. Here’s what we’d tell any friend starting out:
☀️ Sun, wind, and exposure matter
Some days are calm. Some days will test your tent.
That’s why we only recommend glamping tents that are made for long-term outdoor use in Mediterranean climates. We’ve tested what works — and what wears out in a season.
🌬️ Wind isn’t a dealbreaker — it just needs smart planning
We’ve installed tents on cliff edges with strong winds, and they’re still standing. With the right base, orientation, and anchoring system, it’s absolutely doable — and often worth it for the views.
🚿 Infrastructure is flexible
You don’t need full plumbing to get started. From compost toilets to portable showers, there are plenty of low-maintenance options to start with — and we can guide you based on your budget and vision.
🧑🧻🤝🧑♂️ Connection goes a long way
Language barriers exist. Bureaucracy can feel slow. But people here are kind. Helpful. Curious. We’ve had mayors show us building codes, neighbors lend us tools, and local families become friends. You don’t have to know everything — you just have to start.
🛠️ Let’s build your idea — big or small
This project started with our hands, our family, and a love for simple spaces. My background’s in hospitality, renovation, and construction — and Daniella, my wife, is an architect. Together we’ve built more than tents. We’ve built a life that feels honest and intentional.
Whether you’re dreaming of:
- Hosting yoga retreats or creative workshops
- Creating a unique stay to rent out
- Building a peaceful space for your family
…we’re here to help you turn your land into something meaningful.
